Hikma to add 350 jobs in $267 million Ohio manufacturing expansion

Why it matters

The generic drugmaker will invest heavily across Columbus and Bedford, strengthening the regional biomanufacturing supply chain with a major domestic project.

Hikma Pharmaceuticals will invest $267 million across two Ohio manufacturing plants, creating 350 jobs in a major expansion that reinforces the company's commitment to the state's growing pharmaceutical and biomanufacturing industry. The investment splits capital between an expansion in Columbus and a targeted upgrade to injectable production in Bedford.

Hikma, a major supplier of generic medications, noted the expansion will further its capacity to develop and manufacture medicines that will help millions of American patients.

The Columbus Anchor

The bulk of the capital is directed toward the company's Columbus site, where Hikma plans to invest $216 million to expand operations. The project is expected to create 50 new jobs at the facility.

The Columbus expansion builds on an existing workforce, and the new capital will support expanded manufacturing operations.

Bedford's Injectable Buildout

While Columbus is receiving the larger dollar figure, the Bedford facility near Cleveland will see the larger employment impact. Hikma expects to create up to 300 new jobs as part of a $51 million investment at the Northfield Road site.

The Bedford expansion targets injectable pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities. JobsOhio said the project will add advanced aseptic vial filling and lyophilization, along with IV bag production, warehousing, and distribution infrastructure. Local leaders pointed out that the facility has operated as a pharmaceutical site since 1938, and the new capital will manufacture lifesaving medicine while offering career opportunities for residents throughout Northeast Ohio.

The dual investments remain pending final approval of economic development incentives from a wide array of state and local entities, including JobsOhio, the cities of Bedford and Columbus, and county finance authorities.
